California school closure day calendar 2026-27

Find every day your district has no school this year, add it to your calendar in one click, and sort out childcare before the good options are gone.

The short answer

Across the 58 districts listed here, the typical California school year has about 27 weekdays with no school on top of the public holidays: roughly 25 weekdays of break weeks plus a couple of staff development or conference days. All of them are published a year in advance, and all of them are days when every other family in your district needs care too. Search your district below, put the dates in your calendar, and book the ones you cannot cover.

How to use it

Three minutes now saves a scramble later

  1. Find your district

Search by district, city or county. Each district has its own page with every published non-instruction day for 2026-27.

  2. Put the dates in your calendar

Add a single day to Google Calendar, or download the whole year as an .ics file for Apple Calendar or Outlook. They import as all-day events marked free, so they will not block your working hours.

  3. Book the days you cannot cover

Every date links through to drop-in care near you for that day. The earlier you book a closure day, the more choice you have, because every family in the district needs care on exactly the same day.

Why this is hard

The childcare problem nobody schedules for

A staff development day is not an emergency. It is on the district calendar published last spring. It still catches working parents out, because the calendar lives in a PDF nobody opens twice, and because every family in the district needs care on the same day.

That last part is what makes closure days different from a sick nanny. Demand is perfectly synchronised, so the families who book in September get the seats and the families who remember the night before do not.

Questions

About this calendar

Which California districts are covered?

58 districts so far, across 13 counties, chosen as the largest districts in the state plus every district in Santa Clara County. 25 of them are checked against the district's own published calendar; the rest are compiled from third-party listings and marked unverified until we confirm them. We add districts on request, so tell us which one you need.

What counts as a school closure day?

Any weekday the district publishes as a non-instruction day: public holidays, break weeks, staff development or pupil-free days, and parent-conference days. We flag the ones that fall on ordinary working days separately, because those are the days a working parent actually has to solve.

How do I add these days to my calendar?

Each district page has a button that adds a single day to Google Calendar, and a download of the whole year as an .ics file, which Apple Calendar, Outlook and most other calendar apps import. The .ics marks every day as free rather than busy, so it will not block your working hours.

Can I share a link to my district's dates?

Yes. Every district has its own page and its own address, so you can paste it into a class group chat or a parents' mailing list and it opens straight on that district's dates. Individual days are linkable too.

Is this an official source?

No. EnrollPass compiles these dates as a convenience and is not the publisher. Each page links to the calendar it came from. Districts do change dates during the year, so confirm with your district or school before you rely on one.

Where do I find childcare for these days?

Licensed family child care homes and small centers usually follow their own calendar, not the district's, so they are often open when school is shut. EnrollPass lets you complete your child's enrollment record once and then request a drop-in seat for a particular date. Closure days are published a year ahead, so booking early gives you the most choice.

Districts change these dates. EnrollPass compiles them as a convenience and is not the publisher: always confirm against your district or school before booking anything. Spotted something wrong? Tell us and we will fix it.
